do you know of any way I can get out of living in a dorm at ASU? Because that is really not appealing to me, at all. Like if I 'accidentally' forget to apply for housing?
yeah i want to ride a century some time. chicago is nice in that its almost entirely flat...but it also sucks in that its almost entirely flat, rofl. the "hills" around here are the two highway overpasses on my route to work haha.
in the summer i like to stretch my ride home by a few miles and turn it more into a workout than a commute, which im going to try to push further this summer.
do you only have your fixed bike right now or do you have any others?
i ride a gary fisher triton. my lawyer used to be a bike mechanic and said he wouldnt be surprised to see damage up near the front of the frame or to the fork given that i was riding pretty much balls out and didnt even have the opportunity to slow down or brace for impact.
how long are your cranks? i used to ride super long 175s and my knees would kill me after any long distance rides. i immediately felt a difference on 165 crank arms when i got my omniums, since your knees work in a tighter circle and less torque gets put on them. even though its only 10 mm, i was surprised
its almost back to normal now. i'm off crutches and walking around pretty much pain free now. i dont want to rush to get back on the bike since the pressure of pedaling on a tender knee probably isnt a good idea, but i figure another week and i should be back to riding. im heading to the shop tomorrow to have them take a look at it to see what the deal is...which i should have taken care of like a week ago. im hoping there is no hidden frame or fork damage and that its really just a broken wheel.
the seat sounds better with matching bar tape/grips
riding in the winter isnt much worse danger-wise because most of the roads i ride on are considered arterial roads, and are thus "snow routes". they get the most action from snow plows, and you cant park on them when there is more than an inch of snow, so i basically get the full bike lane to myself along with no cars being parked on those roads...leaving me with like a 10 foot wide path to myself. i only have to ride about 5 miles, and i have a membership at the gym which is connected to my office...so i just wake up, throw on a few layers, ride in, take a shower, and head upstairs to work in about half the time it would take me to do a bus-to-train plus walking combo.
i just leave my regular 700x28 tires on my winter wheels and ride with those. since i either ride on cement + slush, or fresh snow if its actually snowing at the time, it works out alright. i know a few people that have rougher commutes down unplowed streets or streets which get icy pretty easily and they ride either with actual studded tires or try small mountain bike or cyclocross tires.
im not a fan of the brown seat, but other than that, it looks pretty good. nice work man what type of bar tape are you going with?
also, i just took a shower with my bike lol. the garden hose is still frozen since its not warm enough yet, and my bike desperately needed a cleaning. took the front wheel off and awkwardly gave it a shower/bath while trying to get every part of it under the stream to get some of this dirt and grime of winter riding off of it
haha. they actually didn't even ask me to until about a week ago. I think they want to narrow it down before they ask everyone to send stuff in so they don't receive mass portfolios at once.
that's all I've been accepted to, I've gotta send in a portfolio to cal poly and I haven't heard anything from long beach. plus i think my mom is booking flights to go visit the campuses first.
he actually does seem legit...100% positive on 1628 auctions. looking at the feedback, i just randomly clicked 5-6 of them and it was all pretty good bike parts. go for it
make sure there are a lot of pictures of it from all angles. i know a person that bought a chris king headset off of ebay for about half price...they didnt use a headset puller and tried to take it off with a flat-head screwdriver, which wrecked the half of it which wasnt pictured. of course that goes for anything on ebay, but bike stuff at cheap prices always sets off more alarms to me.
nice pickups. i have green weinmanns that i bought for cheap from another guy on this local bike board - they've held up well so far.
dont put too much money into a headset for a street bike unless the money is burning a hole in your pocket. just go with something moderate like the ones you listed after that
i was looking at getting sugino 75 cranks about a month ago, but opted for truvativ omniums. they are a bit cheaper but very good cranks - stiff, solid, and smooth. sugino RDs are about $100 less than the omniums...ive never used them but know a lot of people do, so they must be alright.
as for wheels, theres a lot of options. velocity deep v's are a mainstay - good on the street, look good, and come in a billion colors. im a fan of mavic elipse wheels right now, which might be my next wheel purchase.
Dude, every thread I open I see that picture. I'm in tears right now. That has to be one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time. jesus christ.
Yeap. They spent all of Wednesday accusing me of sabotaging my own work, and not working fast enough, and a bunch of other garbage, so finally after my boss told me that I was on AIM too much (there is no AIM on my work computer, nor has there ever been), I was fed up and left.
It was kind of dumb because now I can't use them for references, but I couldn't put up with another week of that crap.
I'll be alone with my girls in the morning... everyones coming here for dinner though. So I wont be alone ALL day... just half of it.. which is great :)
Going alright. Had family over here earlier.. they pretty much JUST left. Now some alone time... such a great feeling lol. I'm supposed to go tomorrow to my brother in laws parents house? I doubt I'll do that. I just want ONE day to just stay home and do nothing. haha.
