I would believe your observation to be quite accurate.

The quest to own garbage, the producers of it and those they easily trick into desiring it have decimated this planet, which is disgusting, as the earth is basically a Utopia. Though, the common human has no interest in experiencing and concentrating on the miracle of our earth or the universe. No. Obtaining as much worthless garbage as possible to socially signal to others is the goal.

The most beautiful, vast and complex experiences possible in the known universe are available to all human beings to contemplate.

But no. Ru Paul's drag race is on TV and I need to watch Basketball.

we are still animals but we think we're better than them and are entitled to exhaust the resources of the world in exchange for comfort and cheetos

zeldobzeenotalvozeezotbome

Yeah and the part that is the most disgusting is the exhausation of said resources is primarily to produce shit no one needs. It would be one thing if it was all for food and housing. It isn't.

hopefully if this pandemic teaches anyone anything it's that we don't "need" half the shit we think we need. we need food, water shelter and that's about it. we don't have to prop up some bullshit economy just for the sake of buying shit to make us feel better about our pathetic existence

I think if people concentrated less on acquiring things and more so on learning things and exploring our universe, people would feel their existence is much less pathetic. I think it's an innate need that is repressed by social pressure, that exists due to mass corporate brainwashing.

Car A:

Price: 15,000 USD

Car B:

Price: 200,000 USD

Function: Moves you from one place to another using roads

Difference: Car B looks different and can move at speeds you will never use

Most still want Car B even if they can't afford it.

One of the main reasons though is flaunting your available resources to potential mates, even if you have one, it is still hard wired to flaunt your resources to show you can support/protect offspring. The sad thing is, it works much of the time.

This primal instinct is leveraged when our lives and world reached the point where survival had become not only easy but expected. There was no real need to compete anymore but our hardwiring evolved much slower than our society over the past 120 years.

That theory is something I believe to be true. And it actually works for a few reasons. More loyal workers to an unnatural setting (corporate world) but also, it keeps the working and poor classes in the same spot as they spend funds they don’t have on things they dont need, therefor the threat of wage equality is neutralized or offset via a new “norm” that keeps the rich rich, the poor poor, and the middle firmly stuck in the middle.

Yes. So the blame lies where...

Just on the tricksters making the most?

Nah. The people buying in are just as much to blame for their misfortunes and lack of perceived wealth.

I say perceived as most people who think themselves as poor in the USA actually have more wealth than 95% of humans alive now and historically probably more now than 99.8% had in the past.

I am definitely top 1% worldwide now and I expect many people here are too and just don't know it.

Other than my terrible car decisions (I gave in and failed and have bought high end cars) I do pretty good with my spending. The things I buy beyond basic survival are all used regularly and I get everything used. I know people who make 1/4 of what I do, spend more than me and have mocked me for being "poor."

I never tell them I make probably 5-6x more than they do.

I’m poor by American standards. Also, we will call it mobile poor... But that’s life choices. In Peru, I think a family could survive food wise on like 20-30 Soles a week, which is roughly $7-10 USD. Some big differences though, like housing and utilities... which are undoubtedly gouged in the US.

so it’s odd... but the poorest Americans are still some of the poorest in the world; while I’d say our working and middle classes would be much wealthier if not for a few factors. The one stated, but also, I don’t know if I can say housing trends are in that group.. but say people move out of a bad neighborhood to a suburban area... a lot of new costs start to accumulate. So that’s not like “need new sneakers need new car”, as you’d want someone to move towards a safer neighborhood but instead of cost of living from the ugly, now it’s cost of living from things like curbside garbage pick up, satellite tv, etc.

all I can really say is the ignorance, the unintended ignorance which can be improved easily with proper education, is probably the biggest factor of this. Play basketball instead of buy a team, rap instead of owning a label, skateboard and not own a company (let’s be honest though, this one popped up a lot more than the other two, but I’m not gonna get into racial and class concepts), pull out your titties on the webcam for horny men to give you $20 instead of, if you can, make a more lucrative career in ahem other fields... it’s the quick way and usually the ignorant like to believe that’s the best bet. Get rich quick, and then die from trying.

We have a curfew until May for no reason and I want to murder half the city. Don’t really care but I feel obligated to be annoyed.

What confuses me the most by far is that I exist. I am a being that exists, seemingly at random among other beings similar to me that all have conciousness. Their conciousness ignores the vast majority of reality and what they are. This is strange. You think the talk of the town would be more along the lines of "Hey. We are all here somehow. Doesn't that seem odd to you? If you look in any direction, it just goes on forever. Any thoughts on that?"

No. Rupaul's dragrace, football, gossip.

It must be an evolutionary thing, ignoring the vast majority of what is going on around us. You'd also think we would have evolved to detect viruses better naturally. A sixth sense involving microsized threats.

We eat life. Plants or animals, who eat other life. Viruses eat and use to reproduce. It is a universe of eating other things that eat other things with the goal of making more of the things.

Why? Why does life want to survive? If an animal, plant or human dies forever, why would it want to continue on creating more of what it was even though it won't be aware anymore?

Something doesn't add up.

I mean I understand what evolution does what it does. Nothing confusing there. What confuses me is....why?

Wouldn't the least path of resistance be to not exist? Is it possible it should be that way and we are not special, but rather a flaw?

I think, after seeing a real agricultural society in action and doing a ton of research on Ireland before Anglo-Norman colonization and conquering, the whole crisis of existence issue is because the system we are in gives us no tangible reward to exist. We are here to contribute to something that won’t make our family or friends lives better in terms of fruits of labors leading to satisfaction of action... we quarrel, buy, look up to questionable figures and wonder what’s the difference between them and so many of us... mainly because in this system, there’s not too much of a point for many of us. Other than just to believe that we can wake up tomorrow and do something about it? Or not. Idk.
