They are killer. I've been doing them once a month on a 12 inch box. Highest I've worked up to is 275, but i haven't really pushed it. You've inspired me to try more this go around.

I've been doing a lot of pause squats lately. I'll pause for 5 seconds in the hole.

275 i was getting off the ground ok, but at 315 we're talking about a one inch vertical. what do you do, jump up onto a 12 inch box?

from the ground to the box.

also, the 275 was not onto a box, I should have made that clear. i stick to 135 when I jump onto the box.

This sounds brutal.

A few PRs from the past few months:

Deadlift 425 @212
Squat 315 @210 I know, my squat is embarrassing, I was still stoked to get it up.
Weighted pull up 90 lbs plus me at 212.5
Squat clean to overhead press @215 (without hurting my back. I've power clean to pressed 225 in the past but I didn't keep my core tight on the press, leaned too far back and tweaked my lumbar spine, not doing that again)

I started biking to work ~ 10 miles, ~5 times a week. Overall leg strength has suffered DRASTICALLY because of it.

Stopped biking due to the weather...Also started hanging out with an ex power lifter and professional strength coach. We'll see if I can get back up there and get some new PRs in before the weather gets better.

i'm sure this dude said the same thing, but bring him to the gym and let him watch you squat. you're probably doing something wrong, or squatting olympic style (which is also incorrect). if you can pull 425 theres no good reason you can't squat it. those are all good lifts though

He's a trainer at my gym. I'll hit him up about it sooner or later. I've always loved deadlifting and been kinda "meh" on heavy squatting, so I put way more energy deadlifting that squatting. I'll get it up there sooner or later.

you're never going to squat as much weight using an olympic style as opposed to a more traditional powerlifting stance.

also, hammer the shit out of your hamstrings, lower back, and glutes.

it's rare that someone enjoys deadlifting more than squatting ... most people despise deadlifting, but I'm the same way.... i'm built to pull.

i love deadlifting partially because it's when i move the most weight. to people that don't know anything about lifting it sounds incredible to them that i was able to move 200lbs.

I've been using a olympic style as of late.

Who would despise deadlifting? Thats preposterous. Squatting is something that I've always done because I know I need to, but I rarely actually get super stoked on moving lots of weight. If I could/should deadlift twice a day everyday I would. Its better than sex, and possibly better than drinking.

And I have a female client who I think is around 110, and she pulls 85 for reps, like, 8 reps. Squats 75 for reps. Its the sexiest thing ever. I can't believe I get paid to have/watch her do them.

I'm not a big fan of squatting because I never learned how to do them right. My deadlift is technical excellence, but my squat is just sit back and go as low as possible. Front squats are the preference either way.

The guys I train with hate deadlifting on max effort days, but they love to squat. They have been doing it for so long and pull so much weight I guess I can see why they hate it, because it's fucking taxing on the body. They rarely free squat during training and mostly do box squats because, hey they work and do carry over to your competition squat. I'm just not on their level yet, so I love doing everything we do bc I have yet to really hit a wall.

My wife weighs 140 and she has some pretty impressive numbers.. she doesn't compete or anything but she trains with me when she has the time. The last time she maxed out on the big three she hit a 145lb bench, 225 deadlift, and a 215 squat. Most woman can't believe she weighs 140 and they all think she weighs like 125. There is nothing sexier than an woman's ass who squats on the regular.

A: i box squatted 515 sunday morning. no wraps, no belt. new pr. first time i box squatted.

b: i worked with some olympic lifters for six months. i squatted four plates deep pretty regularly. in that time, my ass totally dissappeared and it took two years to return. it also took me another six or eight months to get my max squat back up. i can still front squat 315 olympic style, and train that about twice a month, but i really wouldn't reccomend olympic back squatting to anyone but an olympic lifter. really the only thing it does is make you look like a bad ass, which you can do better with front squats, and help your full clean and snatch while not affecting your power clean at all.
