Strength For A Reason is playing at the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg, April 30th. We're looking for 3 more bands to go on the show. Stout and Homicidal are also on this show. If interested, e-mail our booker, Cheryl, at cheryl@shermantheater.com

Bands may be asked to sell approximately 35 tickets, but please keep in mind this is not pay to play. Not selling all your tickets won't get you booted from the show; it's simply a way to co-promote the show and bring more people in.

Thanks!

Hard To Kill got this email today.

Selling Tickets is dumb

Okay the show is just about set.It will not be in Bethlehem anymore.I was told for 2 months I had the date from the club and when I went to make sure it was in the book, they had someone else down for the date.So now the show is being moved to Sherman Theater in East Stroudsburg. There is no ECI involved.Just me and Stroudsburg Walt. The venue does have a backline,so you only need to bring drum sets, guitars, and heads. There is a 5PM load-in time at the venue.Let me know if this is a problem.I'm really pumped with this show! Get back to me ASAP and let me know if everything's gonna be alright. You can also hit Walt up as well if you have venue questions.

They are on the show.Sherman wants some ticket selling bands to open.I have the 6 I booked and I'm not asking them to sell tickets. So there's going to be 9 bands on the bill and it will start earlier. Relax people

9 band shows? Blech. Flat out blech. If you can't book a 5 band line up that will bring in people, then you shouldn't bother booking that show.

Which is the exact reason I hate those shows. Someones getting gipped no matter what.

and obviously a Stout, SFAR, Homicidal, Lifeless and Concrete Reality is enough to bring in people....did you not read dukes post?

Yeah, he said he has 6 bands and he has to put 3 more on cause the venue wants them to sell tickets? Silly. SILLLLLLY.

Not gonna sit and argue with you, but think of it tihs way...its bad for the bands (they get paid less cause the pot needs to be split amongst 9 bands instead of 6) and people have the mentality of i'll just show up late and then the opening bands get screwed by playing to a lesser crowd and then they won't sell as much merch as they could of other wise.

Do what you gotta do, but its bad news bears.

i know exactly what you are saying....i'm just kind of defending the "don't even do the show" thing.....sure it sucks, but it sounds like thats just the venue being gay...should they just cancel it so no one gets paid, no merch gets sold, no one hears the bands?

That was more of a general statement, than one addressing this show specifically. I see too many shows where promotors pack on bands in hopes of getting more people out. This show is booked, and you gotta do what you gotta do.

ok listen the show is set,all the bands are the orig bill are all playing, sorry to hart to kill, concrete reality, and lifeless.the sherman needs to cover a few costs i don't see a prob with this.they are not asking our bands to sell tickets.i would nit allow this.they pretty much have the ticket selling band alreasdy.this was just a post to get the word out.i would exspect my friends if they have a prob to get at me instead of running to the computer n saying shit.please guys i'm doing this because i love it,not making anything from it but a good time.please give me the same respect i would give u,or the same respect u would give other promoters n clubs.i hope this is not to much to ask.

I don't know what the deal is with the bands and pre-sale. I just hope we have a good turnout for the show (I'm sure we will) and hopefully Walt can work with our booker to continue to bring these shows to the Sherman. I'm excited for it and can't wait.

ECI hasn't been involved with the Sherman for well over a year; I understand they had tension with a number of bands and the Sherman was pulled into it unneccesarily. Whatever happened in the past is there and not here (not to mention- before my time at the Sherman) so hopefully everyone moves forward on that and has a great time.

Make sure you say hello to me if you're coming out. I'm the house manager and will definitely be there for the show. I may even do some band photos that night since I just got my new camera today.

I don't see what the problem is with the pay to play .bands don't even promote any more.at least they could sell some tickets

A lot of venues make the bands cover the money on the tickets they don't sell. Thats bullshit!

The Sherman doesn't force any bands to hand in money for tickets not sold. We're definitely not pay to play. If you took out 35 tickets and sold 10, there's nothing we can do about that. All it's about is working together to try and bring in more people, that's all.

But the bands that only sell 10 tickets only get the money from those 10 tickets, they don't get anything else right?

Also, usually in those you gotta sell tickets type shows, the bands sell tickets to anyone that will take them. I've seen moms and dads, random people off the street, and mostly just that bands friends that show up for that one band then immediately leave.

This isn't an attack on this show or walt or kyle or Chris Nase's beautiful teeth, but on Pay to Play and Karl's Hair.

OH no it's understood dude, I know how it is...there's a lot of shady venues out there that screw over bands. I just want to bridge that gap between our venue and these bands because of past dealings.

Bands that sell tickets get paid based on hitting a ticket quota. It's different quotas for different shows, but I have no idea how it's working on this one. Cheryl is handling that business. All I do is make sure money is in the registers so you can buy more booze and snacks and handle various complaints and pretend to be important.

Also, I know this always comes up- yes, there will be security at the show. No, there won't be barricades or anything ridiculous to stop people from moshing. If anyone gets seriously hurt, they are there to prevent a fight from happening, not muscle people around or throw people out. I think everyone will be fine with how that goes that night as well.
