I wasn't even aware they were actively writing music, but apparently the new album "Oceania" will be released within on 6/19. We are stoked to bring you the cover art and tracklisting.

THE SMASHING PUMPKINS will release their new album, "Oceania", on June 19 via EMI Label Services/Caroline distribution.

Produced by THE SMASHING PUMPKINS' frontman Billy Corgan, "Oceania" is an intense and dynamic offering that will appeal to new and existing fans of THE SMASHING PUMPKINS alike. "Oceania", the band's seventh studio record, is “an album within an album,” part of their 44-song work-in-progress "Teargarden By Kaleidyscope".

Peter Katsis, manager of SMASHING PUMPKINS for Prospect Park, stated: "THE SMASHING PUMPKINS created 'Oceania' as an album experience, and it is intended for the process of the release to follow a path of inclusion, so that best efforts are made for all the fans hear it at the same time as press or radio. We were excited to find partners in EMI Label Services that were equally passionate about the plan for the album release as well as being huge fans of the PUMPKINS."

01. Quasar

If I told you that the new Smashing Pumpkins album was called Oceania, and pointed out that the title sounds an awful lot like the one of an Isis record, Oceanic, you’d probably say, “Well, that’s true, but it’s not the same word, and it’s not as though Isis invented the word ‘ocean’ or ‘oceanic’ or any variation thereof, so I don’t think there’s any real connection there.”

And then if I told that there’s a song on The Smashing Pumpkins’ Oceania called “The Celestials,” kinda like the name of Isis’ album Celestial, you’d probably say, “Okay, yeah, I guess that’s a little weird, but they’re still different titles, and it’s probably just a funny coincidence.”

But THEN if I told you that there’s ALSO a song on The Smashing Pumpkins’ Oceania called “Panopticon,” which is the EXACT title of an Isis album, you’d probably say, “Okay, yeah, I guess Billy Corgan really loves Isis.”

And that’s not a crime. I’m not saying Corgan should be penalized for using these titles, and I certainly bare him no ill will for digging Isis.

I just think it’s, y’know, WEIRD to have three titles with allusions to the works of another band on one album. What’s going on here? Is there a thematic connection? Are the Smashing Pumpkins about to start emulating Isis’ sound? Are all of Corgan’s lyrics on the album going to be about how he wants to run his hands through Aaron Turner’s beard?

no James Iha = no Smashing Pumpkins. Billy might be the only original member at this point, i'm not sure if Chamberlain is still hanging around.

Despite all his rage I think he still is.

He's not. They have some 22 year old named Mike Byrne. I think losing Chamberlain is a far bigger deal than Iha. Chamberlain is one of the best rock drummers.
