Review:
Don’t Call It A….oh wait wrong band. Troublesome, the latest project from that degenerate Adam Engle, featuring his new band of misfits comprised of 3/5 members (or ex-members) of CDC and a 10 year old that plays for What It Takes bring us their debut demo/EP entitled The Lonely Street Of Dreams.
I didn’t know what to expect going into this record. It’s no secret that I’m a notorious CDC hater (sorry John, I love you) so figuring that a band comprised of 3 members didn’t strike me as something I would fancy. To my surprise they sound nothing like CDC. Instead of focusing on being Mosh Titans they put the focus on writing complete solid hardcore songs. Between the tuning and the overall style of the music, I couldn’t help but be reminded of Buried Alive. Now it’s not an identical clone which is good for them because trying to recreate something as memorable as Buried Alive is tricky and usually ends up as a failure.
If you’ve ever heard Straight Up, you know what you are getting vocal wise. To me Adam has a very distinct mid to high range vocal style. Lyrically he does another excellent job of speaking from the heart and letting you know what’s on his mind. Knowing him as the jokester he is, it’s nice to see him let his serious side come out every now and then.
For a disc I was fully prepared to hate, I was pleasantly surprised by this one. For it only being 5 tracks, it won’t take long for you to know the whole thing front to back. Seeing them live is more than like the real treat (sorry I haven’t seen them yet) because I just know the energy that Mr. Engle brings to the stage. But also not to forget to mention that the songs will provide enough two-step, dancefloor kickboxing, and some headbanging. I think the next time they play a show that I’m at; I’m going to have to stick around this time.
