MOLOTOV SOLUTION

'The Harbringer'

Similar Bands:
Despised Icon, Beneath The Massacre

Review:
Every time I come to review one of the not so good albums, I always question how record labels decide on which bands are good and which aren’t. I really can’t seem to figure it out. With all the deathcore bands out there that sound almost exactly identical as the last one, what does one do that the other doesn’t to make them worthy of being apart of your illustrious record label? These are some of the thoughts that ran through my head as I was listening to Molotov Solution’s debut record on Metal Blade entitled The Harbringer.

As I was making my way through the first track I said to myself “these guys have to be from Canada” because they sound exactly like a bad clone of bands like Despised Icon and Beneath The Massacre. Now while neither of those bands are world stopping good, they are far superior to most deathcore bands, which really isn’t saying much either. Both BTM and DI have similar tuning and elements making them obvious comparisons against each other and definitely are leading the pack as far as bringing that signature Canadian deathcore sound. This seems to be what Molotov Solution was going for too when they decided to be a band. Only problem is, they aren’t Canadian. They are from Las Vegas, NV which is about as opposite of Canada as you can get without being Mexican.

Now with that little identity crisis out of the way we can get to the subject of their actual music. If I was given only the option of using 3 words to describe this album I’d use the following: Boring, Generic, and Uninspiring. This album is terrible and a sure fire way to cure any sleeping problems you are having. I made the near fatal mistake of listening to this the first time while driving early in the morning when I was tired. Had my drive been any longer I would have probably put myself in the middle of a horrific multi-car accident. Everything about this record is bland and flatlined. There is not point throughout this record that I became intrigued. Not a single riff caught my attention. Even their cover art is lame. Like I stated they are a poor attempt at cloning Despised Icon and Beneath The Massacre. What they seemed to have done was taken the most boring parts of their material and combined it into a 35 minute compellation of boredom.

Even for the diehards of the deathcore genre, I can’t recommend this record. They successfully were able to screw up the easiest parts of their songs. Their breakdowns are about as massive and heavy as a feather. And all the non-breakdown portions of their songs are as dull as the blade of a butter knife.

Again this brings me back to the questions from the opening paragraph. I still can’t figure out what this band does that warrants a major metal label like Metal Blade to show any interest in them. Are they friends of some executive? Did they perform oral favors on the talent scout? Other than those two options I can’t really place my finger on what they are doing that is so different or better than (insert another generic deathcore band here). Even if making a quick buck is the reason for signing this band, I don’t see how a band like Molotov Solution is going to make them any loot anyway. Hopefully this band flops and it teaches Metal Blade a lesson.

yeah but like it was stated in another review, they do have some solid bands on their current roster. The problem is their shittier bands are being pushed more and for every good band they sign, they're signing 4 or 5 bad ones.
