DEVOURMENT

Review:
The Kings of misogynist slam metal are back and this time they brought with them good production. Almost never thought I'd be able to say that. Devourment returns with their 3rd full length entitled Unleash The Carnivore and it's a pure assault on your auditory senses. When I say this album is heavy, I mean its FUCKING HEAVY.

Devourment is always going to be one of those "love'em or hate'em" type of bands. Their style of music mixed with extremely low gutturals seems to only satisfy a specific audience. For me I can't get enough of this stuff. Listening to this record in my car makes me want to recreate some of my favorite hit and run fatalities from the latest Grand Theft Auto. Seeing them live makes it hard for me not to actually try to see how far I can put my foot through someone. I challenge anyone to try to sit through one of Devourment's signature breakdowns. It's impossible. These things aren't just massive they are gargantuan.

Aside from the breakdowns Devourment has seemed to step up their song writing to go along with the beefed up production. Instead of songs simply being blast-hyperblast-breakdown-repeat, they've added a lot more thrashier licks to their artillery. There are a lot of times that I found myself headbanging away while driving at "suspend my license" speeds because some parts just grab you like that. Then just when I thought I was safe my car exploded from the slam.

I fully expect that this album is not going to be for everyone. Most of the problem comes from Mike Majewski's vocals. His vocals are so low that it's pretty much impossible to make out what he is saying unless you are reading along with lyric sheets. Even then you still have a lot of trouble making out specific words. For me I think the vocals just add to the brutality of the band but I can see why others would hate it.

I really can't stop listening to this. Listening to this album makes me sad that I had to skip the day they played the Maryland Death Fest. If you are a fan of breakdowns, death metal, and super heavy music, get this record and prepare to kill something.

i could have used a little more "slam" here and there, but overall, great album, great review.

things unnecessary when making an album:
-lyrics
-sobriety
-guitar effects
-singing
