Review:
I could've sworn I heard this band before and their sound didn't float my fancy, but I popped this cd and within one minute I thought to myself "wow I'm an asshole." The more I listened though... The more I found to be desired.
The opening track hits harder than a bear swinging a bat with bricks attached to it: fast first 10 seconds and then a punishing groove for pretty much the rest of the song. It set a standard for the rest of the songs that, unfortunately, I feel most didn't hold up to. I thought this whole cd was gonna be one pissed off piece of work, but most, except two or three, of the songs that follow the opening track could be described as hardcore songs with nothing too special about them. Don't get me wrong, I like them, but it isn't something I could see myself listening to repeatedly passed a couple plays. Nothing stands out quite as much as that opening track. Total bummer.
The recording is pretty decent. I actually love this dudes vocals on this recording... While the rest of the cd, musically, seemed to lose it's edge on most tracks as the recording went on, the vocals did not. This dude sounds pissed off with every word he sends out to us. The guitar tones are pretty mean, and the drums are pretty much perfect, including that hard kick drum.
I guess its just the song-writing that I find to be the downfall in the end. It's just not consistent.
So overall, in all honesty, this is an album worth, at the very least, checking out. If you like heavy hardcore that isn't riddled with breakdowns and predictable parts, then this would be a perfect addition to the collection. For me, I don't foresee much playtime in the future, but you never know, this may be right up your alley. Stop by their myspace and see for yourself and if you like what you hear, be sure to pick the album up.
