GOD FORBID

Review:
Have you ever listened to the newest CD of a band you liked only to say to yourself "Wow. They didn't even try on this one". That's the feeling I was left with when I finished listening to all 10 tracks of God Forbid's newest release, Earths Blood.

There are almost no characteristics remaining from the God Forbid that I used to love. The days of Reject The Sickness, Out Of Misery, and even Determination are long dead and gone. Instead of sounding unique they are now just as bland as most other modern melodic metalcore bands. They used to stand out amongst their peers and now they are just lost in the mix.

On top of loosing their appeal they seemed to have lost their inspiration. Throughout the record I did find myself digging a few riffs here and there but they were spaced so far apart that they didn't even matter. It's actually upsetting how boring this record is. I became more depressed after I listened to this and threw on Reject The Sickness to remind myself of the days when I couldn't wait to see them play again. After listening to this sorry excuse for an album, I could care less if I ever hear them again.

Even though the music itself is boring the biggest killer for this band is still the choice of using clean vocals. I was hoping that Better Days was just an experiment that would ultimately fail and they'd come back with the follow up record sans singing. Nope, their last album was chock full of it and so is this record. I don't think Doc or Dallas have terrible cleans but they don't fit the music at all. I think they'd get better use in a radio rock band. Even for metal they are awkward. Even worse is they don't sing in key live and usually have their microphones turned down. In addition to the guitarists taking their chances with clean vocals, now Byron has decided to let his lack of clean singing talent shine as well. When he wasn't screaming I was aggravated.

Because certain things work for certain bands, it doesn't necessarily mean you should try it. God Forbid's decision to try to please the more mainstream crowd has pretty much crippled their ability to write an honorable record. They have not put out an overall decent record since their change in musical direction started. This newest release is by far their worst outing to date and I don't see it getting any better for them. Put a fork in them, they're done.

I gave up on this band years ago. This review is pretty much what I expected from the album.

i'd listened to the 2 jams on the myspace and was pretty much instantly turned off the entire album .. sounds like most numetal does to me these days

the clean vocals sit horribly on top of everything else
