Vaccine, the straight edge power violence band of former Orchid member Will Killinsworth, has a new 7" EP out. Those familiar with the band's previous output know that they really keep things short and sweet. The 10 tracks presented are blasted through from front to back within 5 minutes. As a matter of fact, a quick "select all" on Vaccine's discography in my Itunes calculates a whopping 16.4 minutes overall.
As with most powerviolence, the production is fucking TERRIBLE. But I would imagine thats what the listeners dig and you gotta keep the listeners happy. Guitars are downtuned and bass is barely audible while the drums are rather lo-fi and borderline distorted. Vocals are rather unintelligible but more then likely revolve around not drinking, with song titles like "Moral Decay" and "Submit".
In a live scenario, I really appreciated the band's brutality and fast and furious set. Being an audio engineer, i've never been one for shitty production, so I imagine that's the one thing holding me back from loving this release. Overall, you can only expect so much from powerviolence but I can say Vaccine hits those expectations on all cylinders. "Dead Inside"is out now via Painkiller Records.
