The hardcore supergroup of sorts, Living Eyes are back with another EP. On their recent East Coast run with labelmates Punch, the band released a new 12" EP with a sick screenprinted b-side. Needless to say, I was stoked and picked up a copy at their Philly show at the Barbary. I was happy to hear another solid 13 minutes of blistering hardcore punk.
Things get started with the title track, "Who Will Remain?" and its clear the band is picking up where the left off with their previous EP "Starve For Agony". Feedback swells and a distorted bass riff kick things off, as frontman RJ Leimpeter barks "still running this race, no light to guide our fall". Leimpeter's vocals are distorted and pissed across the EP's 11 tracks. Drummer Val Saucedo (Punch) slays the drums, switching from chaotic blasts to mosh-friendly D-Beat floor tom grooves. A great attribute of Living Eyes I mentioned while reviewing their previous release is their ability to throw tempo out the window, speeding up and slowing shit down within a single minute song.
To see these guys still heavily involved with DIY is a real plus. Helping at Deathwish HQ to screenprint the dust jackets/album covers and records themselves really gives an authentic touch to the physical EP. That alone makes this worth supporting and picking up a copy. Not to mention its impressive to pump out such undiluted hardcore, given the member's primary bands put out so much material. Anyhow, "Who Will Remain?"is out now via Deathwish Inc and be sure to catch these guys on tour.
