Restorations have been one of the better bands to come out of Philadelphia in recent years. Not ones for classification, just when you think you've nailed down a specific genre, they switch things up and keep you guessing. This is one of the main attributes that drew me in to this band. Restorations self titled LP was released in 2011 and garnered tons of positive feedback. The followup, "A/B" is 10 minutes of solid material that can be considered a further progression on their unique sound.

On "A", things get started with a lightly distorted guitar before the whole band kicks in. The distorted bass tone is a highlight to me throughout the EP. Vocalist Jon Loudon’s rough around the edges voice shines on the verses while its accompanied with delicate guitar riffage and little drummer boy style snare rolls. Don't get your panties up in a bunch though, this isn't another punk band trying to sound like Bruce Springsteen. Upon flipping the record over, you are treated to the "punkier" side of the band.

"B" is definitely the rocker between the two tracks. The tempo varies from upbeat 4/4 punk to laid back reverb soaked interludes. The final 2 minutes and change consist of a lead guitar laden jam out, which I would imagine would sound sick live. I would recommend newcomers to Restorations check this EP out, as their dynamic range is greatly displayed and I feel is a great companion to their self titled LP. "A/B" is out now via Tiny Engines.
