Joyce Manor burst onto the scene last year with their debut self titled LP on 6131 Records. Combining a Jawbreaker sound with a Weezer attitude worked great and grabbed a lot of peoples attention. Riding the wave, the band got right back at it pretty quickly with the release of Of All Things I Will Soon Grow Tired, this time on Asain Man Records.
The quick turn around time brought the fear that this would be a rushed and half assed album. Unfortunately that was confirmed when I started listening to these tracks. Initially it sounds like they were able to pick up right where they stopped. As the album moves forward it loses momentum drastically though. Each time a song seems to hit a stride they throw a wrench in it with few exceptions like on "Comfortable Clothes."
On top of just being a shit album, they also throw in a horrid cover of "Video Killed The Radio Star." I get that they were trying to be different and go out on a limb but, holy fuck, someone should have stopped them. Also, on a short record why include shit songs like "Drainage."
This record just pretty much sucks shit. There are decent moments, but overall it is an incredible disappointment from their Self Titled. Bad enough that it makes me second guess if I even liked the first record. Avoid this, or vehemently defend it and call me a dick. I don't really care.
