Cancer Bats have been around since 2004. Dead Set On Living is their fourth studio album. I had personally never heard the band before so this is my first venture into listening to them.
Their style of 80's metal/ southern rock blended rock really doesn't do anything for me. It is well done but the songs didn't catch my attention. They are heavy with medium paced music. The music has a strong metal and hardcore influence without the metalcore effect. It is definitely more punk rock than either of those genres. Unfortunately it was not very entertaining.
The vocals were my favorite part of this band.The music fit well with the vocals but I was unable to truly appreciate the music here and would have enjoyed something less metal.
Overall it was a well put together album but unfortunately I wasn't into the songs. I could envision them writing songs that I would like but I didn't find a single song to enjoy here. As I have not heard any of their other albums I can't attest to how this holds up to their older work but I feel this is just more of the same and fans would probably enjoy this. I would say if you are into metal/hardcore influenced punk its worth checking out.
