When Tigers Fight is a rare breed of band. They're a side project but not really. It's ex and current members of some of the best hardcore bands to ever exist. So much that I won't bother listing a smattering of them because it would take too much time.
I'm an unabashed fan of them. I loved their self-titled EP and Ghost Story is one of the most overlooked albums of the last 10 years. I sing their praises constantly and now I have a new album that I heard rumblings about for a few years.
What can I say about this album? I'll go on record and say that they hit their stride here.
Death Songs comes out ripping with 15 second scorcher I Never Want To Hear Your Voice which does what it should, it makes you aware that this is going to be a straight up heavy album.
Tracks like Temporary Fix and Every Stone Unturned kick everything up a notch. Guitarists Jonathon Dennison and Jim Winters write memorable riffs that avoid many pitfalls that hardcore guitarists fall into these days. Vocalist Mike McTernan lets loose with some of his best screams to date.
I won't fuck around with words, so I'll just say that you're getting 22 minutes and 51 seconds of the best hardcore that you can get in 2012. Don't make a mistake and overlook this album. You'd be doing yourself a disservice.
