It seems like Poison Idea never got their due. Sure, there were hints of it with bigger, more metal bands covering their material but it seems like when people talk about old school stuff, they're usually crowing on about Black Flag, Minor Threat or Bad Brains. Not to bag on any of those bands because I like and respect them but Poison Idea was always the better band to me. If there was one album that I would call an underrated classic, it would be Feel The Darkness.
It seems as if I'm not alone with my thoughts on this. Since most of their material is out of print, they're getting the reissue treatment.
This is the first of those which features Darby Crash Rides Again, the never before released Boner's Kitchen demo, a live set from KBOO radio and outtakes from another release.
It's what you would expect from material that's 30 years old. It's fast, furious and in your face punk rock. No overdubs or studio trickery here. It's raw and unhinged. The thing that shocks me is how well this material has held up over the years. It sounds more pissed than anything that's being called "punk rock" these days.
The radio set is awesome because they ape the shit out of the audience the whole time, as well as put on a great set of their early stuff. I wish that there were more sets of them floating around. Maybe on the future releases.
I'm glad that these songs are getting out there again because more people need to hear a highly influential band's beginnings. Don't miss out on this. It's a great addition to any collection (of pretentious assholes.)
