Somewhere around 2002 or 2003 I saw what at that time I deemed to be the worst band ever, The Acacia Strain. Their boring nonstop breakdown fest was mind numbingly awful. Fast forward to 2007, I went to see Darkest Hour and Cephalic Carnage. I had only heard of Emmure, unfortunately I was about to see them. Unholy hell was it assrendous. Kids acted like the 2nd coming of Christ was happening. They quickly gained the crown of worst band ever.
Not much has changed for them since then. They still embody all I hate about modern metalcore. "Hey guys, we have these two breakdowns for this song, how do we link them together?" "Duh bro! With more fucking breakdowns!" It's seemingly the bread and butter of this shit machine and kids gobble it down like candy.
To me, it seems like this is what happens when people get into hardcore and their roots are nu metal. I'm not calling out their roots by any means as people all start somewhere. However, those nu metal sounds are highly prevalent in their sound. It's like the worst parts of nu metal fighting against bro mosh parts. Plenty of laughable parts withing Slave to the Game, some of which reminded me of Disturbed's animal noises.
On this album, the band has put in some melody here and there. That's not really much progression. The entire album was absurdly hard to listen to. By the end I didn't know which song I was on as they all pretty much sound the same and that sound is the soundtrack to someone taking a huge shit. The guitar tone sounds like shit, the drums sound like shit, and all three of the singer's voices sound like shit (especially the annoying talking voice he uses too much).
I'm sure kids will find this review and trash talk it. Don't worry, in another 5-10 years this band will be nothing but a mere memory as their trend sound will have surely passed. In the end, the band laughs last as they're laughing all the way to the bank with this bullshit they call music.

fucking idiots
I just read the drummer from Bury Your Dead is now in this band.
It's a glorious thing.
I hope that maybe a band that's video game themed and actually good like Powerglove decides to one day go to one of Emmure's shows and curbstomp the shit out of them.
