Nearly ten years in the making, Graf Orlock have come a long way with their music and cinema craft. With countless releases, tours, and shows, the band have made quite an impression locally as well as worldwide with their own touch of grindcore. I guess you could say I had high expectations for this release beings it's the follow up to the Doombox ep. This group is another good example of hardworking diy musicians whom probably started out thinking they weren't going to be touring the world one day.
Anyone who hasn't listened to this band can expect what I'd consider to be a lo fi sound. Abrasive vocals mixed with extremely distorted guitar,Breaks here and there, and throw in some awesome movie quotes for good measure. Im honestly not sure if these guys are still into the film aspect of their project like they used to be because there was no mention of it with the album description. The group now consists of three members and will be releasing this ep through member Jason Schmidt's own label on April 10th.
Los Angeles picks right up where Doombox left off in my opinion. The overall sound is similar which I was hoping for,and the bands style of writing still has no true faults. Drumming is fast, precise, and compliments the music very well. If there was any change it's probably in the guitar writing.
As far as the audio clips are concerned they were taken from the movie "Heat" which is one of my favorite films. Even something as simple as those audio samples made me like this that much more. Quick on the trigger is a great closer with the music playing along with the audio samples from the shootout scene in the end. The only real gripe I have with Los Angeles is it left me wanting to hear more material after the 10 minute listen. While that's not a terrible thing,I still wanted something longer to keep me going. Im hoping there is some discussion of full length in the near future as I will be anxiously awaiting it.
This is another solid ep from Graf Orlock and I would tell anyone who has enjoyed their material in the past to grab it in two days.
