Benchpress - Stay Hated

Benchpress - Stay Hated.....Holy fuck if I didn't shake my head and laugh when I saw that band name and title of their EP. It doesn't take a private detective to figure out the sound of this band without listening. Call it "tough guy hardcore" if you want or hard style, but that is the stupidest fucking term possible. I'd rather go with metallic hardcore.

The surprise with Benchpress is despite the generic aesthetic, the part that matters is legitimately good. Sure, their sound is absolutely nothing new, but there is a reason certain bands playing this style thrive. Reminiscent of Terror in almost every way, these guys pummel their way through six songs in thirteen minutes. Anyone familiar with hardcore from the 90's until the present is completely familiar with the formula here. Mosh parts, singalongs, crowd participation seem to be the main objective. However, that doesn't not take away from making these songs enjoyable on your stereo speakers. Carson Slovak of whatever-the-fuck-his-studio-is-called-now Studios did an excellent job getting the sound right for these guys. Everyone sounds right on point from the vocals down to the drums.

As I mentioned before, I am sure that this translates perfectly into a live setting. These bands are a dime a dozen, but these guys seem to be significantly better than their peers. I'm not sure how much they get out of their small hometown in Central Pennsylvania, but if they make the right moves I could see them catching on quickly.
