Rise And Fall - Faith

In 2005, Rise And Fall dropped a pipebomb by the name of "Into Oblivion" and have been a mainstay in the modern hardcore scene since. These Belgian dudes have put out nothing but solid release after release over the years, and their newest offering "Faith" is no exception. Fans of any other Deathwish Inc. related bands will get into this record, as Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou's recording wizardry compliments the content well.

Leadoff track "A Hammer And Nails" gets right to the point, as pounding drums and distorted bass assault your ear drums. "Here's a quick fix, here's a hammer and nails. There's an early grave calling your name." is the only opening line needed to acquaint you with the lyrical content on this album.

The drumming is exceptional and articulate, the guitars are chunky yet mid heavy, and feedback reigns supreme. Similar to Converge's last album "Axe To Fall", this record has a couple guest appearances. Stephen Brodsky (Cave In), Justin De Tore (Mind Eraser, etc.), and Kevin Baker (The Hope Conspiracy, APMD,) all lend their talents to "Faith".

While the first 4 tracks are all typical ragers, Rise And Fall show signs of progression on "Things Are Different Now". The band's ability to transition from uptempo sonic assaults to slower drudging doomfests are a welcome addition to the bands sound. It's just nice to not be exhausted by the halfway point of the album.

By no means are Rise And Fall reinventing the wheel, they are just doing Entombed-esque hardcore really well. A quick glimpse at the related bands listed will inform you if this album is for you, I obviously recommend taking "Faith" for a spin.
