Richmond's purveyors of "party thrash" have been around for a long ass time now. They brought in a level of self-aware fun that seemed to be missing from modern metal for a few years. There were a lot of bands that tried to replicate their style but they always seemed like they paled in comparison to MW.
Now it's 2012 and The Fatal Feast is their first recorded material since Massive Aggressive in 2009. In the metal game, so much can change in 3 years. Bands can go from being on top of everything to complete obscurity just like that.
With that being said, did Municipal Waste fall to wayside?
Well, yes and no.
The reason I say that is because their style doesn't allow for much deviance from their root sound. Sure, the riffs are fast and furious, the drums are kicking and the songs themselves are full of energy, I just feel like I've heard this way too many times by now. Sure, they do it better than most but it doesn't capture my attention like Hazardous Mutation did.
Not to say that this is a bad album because it sure as hell isn't but I feel like it's been done before. I'm sure in a live setting, these songs come to life a lot more but unfortunately they aren't playing in my living room right now.
