Jeff Tuttle, rhythm guitar player for NJ's Dillinger Escape Plan, has put down the guitar and picked up a microphone. Old Gods, a new Detroit based sludgy punk band come out swinging on their self titled debut. Tuttle contributes background vocals for DEP so this isn't a venture out of the ordinary. Tuttle's distorted vocals are a welcome fit to the chaos presented throughout the EP.

Opener "Flower Of Flesh And Blood" opens with close to 2 minutes of amp noise and ambience, which I'll take any day over that stupid dark synth intro track shit. Those expecting DEP-esque time signature changes and frenetic instrumentation will be disappointed. Many twists and turns in songs like "Snakeoil Painting 2" range from blasts of punk to straight up sludge.

I'm definitely looking forward to more output from these guys, just not sure how long we'll have to wait as DEP is Tuttle's priority. Either way, definitely worth checking out as the EP is available for free on their bandcamp.
