If the Oliphaunts listened to music, this is the album they would march to. To simply put it, this album is heavy. Drastically so.
I wont even try to go into specific details of the songs because that would not do them justice. Conan comes forward in the way the band's name implies it should.. slow, lumbering, building up to smash your face in with the heavy weight of a weapon. The weapon in this case a heavy dose Stoner/Doom Metal.
The production is very true to form. The bass and guitar are almost completely meshed together in a sludge of distortion. The drums are crystal clear, with every cymbal crash and drum hit holding the groove together clearly. The vocals are right where they need to be in the mix. The vocal preference is generally a shout/chant like singing with sparse harsh vocals.
The song-crafting is superb for this style of Metal. You have slow grooves that rest on one or two notes and then you get knocked off your feet by a thunderous riff thats grooves so hard you forget where you are for a second. This album is loud and is meant to be played loud that is for sure.
Conan have put together an album that can be thrown in with the Sleeps and Electric Wizards of the world. Pack a bowl. Listen to this. Remember a time long forgotten. Oh yeah, don't forget to turn it up. That's where the true power lies.
