I couldn't imagine being a student at PSU after this. I would absolutely transfer to avoid the BS.
yep.

it's a long shot but if people stop showing up to games they might as well have gotten the death penalty. it sounds silly but anyone who has been up to central pa can imagine the economic impact this would have on the area.a two year bowl ban, NCAA supervision, OR a hefty monetary fine would have been ample.

from the Big Ten" Ineligibility: As referenced in the NCAA release, Penn State’s football team will be ineligible for postseason bowl games. It will also be ineligible for Big Ten Conference Championship Games for four years, a period of time that runs concurrently with the NCAA postseason bowl ban imposed this morning.
Fine: Because Penn State will be ineligible for bowl games for the next four years, it will therefore be ineligible to receive its share of Big Ten Conference bowl revenues over those same four years. That money, estimated to be approximately $13 million, will be donated to established charitable organizations in Big Ten communities dedicated to the protection of children.

How do you make amends to the innocent victims? Why, you punish people who had nothing to do with Sandusky's crimes or Paterno's ignorance. Yeah, if I were someone who was playing for PSU I would be pissed about this. Completely overreaching and unfair to so many who had no part or knowledge of what was going on.
What Pudge said is what my post was getting at.
That being said, I think my response was premature. Stripping those wins means Joe Paterno no longer holds the title of "most winningest coach in college football", which is deserved. I hope no one here (and I doubt that the people who know me do) think I'm some stupid die hard PSU football fan that behaves like the idiots that we have all been seeing on Facebook and the media. What happened is the worst thing I can think of to ever occur at any university.
Honestly, I just have no idea what could possibly help the victims. I understand the the NCAA is doing this because this is something so unbelievable and unprecedented that they need to make it known that we, as a country, won't stand for it. I hope it helps the victims, but I'm not sure there is much of anything that will help them cope with such a disgusting trauma.

Also, I feel bad for the players that will be on the team this year or gave their verbal commitments. I wonder how hard it will be for them to transfer to another D1 school or how many gave up other good opportunities to come to PSU, just to find out that the legendary coach was a freaking disgraceful scumbag.

"I am stunned. And sad. And beyond that really pissed off. What does the NCAA think that it will help by penalizing students and other staff that were not present when all this happened? I am NOT ashamed that I went and still attend PSU...in fact, I should now consider getting a third degree from there. I'll never hide my love and pride for PSU...wearing a PSU shirt today. To all you haters, suck it. I'm sure you're all so happy this happened to Penn State but guess what? The university WILL come back, and stronger than ever. I feel so sad for the students who are losing out on scholarships and the chance to play in bowl games. You can all sit here and say that Penn Staters are drinking kool aid or are just blindly supporting our alma mater, but, the fact of the matter is what happened today and yesterday was not right. I don't care if you fight with me, write stupid, mindless Penn State bashing on my status, send me nasty private messages...won't ever change my mind and quite frankly I have no time to feed into your bullshit so don't expect a response, either. If my Penn State pride annoys you, dueces. Gladly remove yourself from my friends list because this chick will ALWAYS bleed blue & white, no matter what. We are..."

What the fuck is this heated shit? No one hates Penn State (unless they're Pitt or Michigan State kids...I guess).

thats a valid statement, but all these things are being dished out because of Sandusky and what we all now know actually happened. So the topic is not being taken from the victims, but its just more fall out and in ways its victimizing others. Basically guilty by association. Like the guy a few posts back said, it's like a giant grenade and there is tons of shrapnel to go around.

Exactly my point, however, who / what / where / how do you punish? All ears.
Sometimes there is no justice.
You can send Sandusky to prison for the rest of his life, which, even if he isn't shanked, will be at best, 20 years. Paterno is dead, he can't be punished, only his legacy erased, which serves no purpose in making any kind of amends.
That's really it. Is it enough? No. But then again, what will be? You can't replace the stolen innocence of Sandusky's victims.
Perhaps punishment isn't the answer. Acknowledgement of Paterno's failure instead of burying him and pretending he didn't exist. Or how about giving Sandusky's victims the tools they need to move beyond the abuse? You know, it bothers the hell out of me that we tell people who have been sexually abused that their soul has been murdered and they will be scarred and emotionally crippled for life. Kids can survive some pretty horrific things- abuse, injury, cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, why, then, do we think it's impossible for them to survive being molested? People do all the time. It doesn't lessen the severity of the act but enough with the melodramatic cries of soul murder. People who survive rape and abuse have some of the strongest souls ever. Can we focus on that instead of enacting a scorched earth vengeance against an entire university, faculty, and student body, the vast majority of which had nothing to do with what occurred?

Well, the same could be said for the Catholic community during the sex abuse scandal in the nineties and beyond. The only difference is, the church didn't have a winning football team, a coach that everyone liked, and a mascot that shot tee shirts into the congregation. There is fallout as a result of abominations like this. Get over it. First world horse shit. Tell your story to an adolescent Nigerian with AIDS or a Kosovar-Albanian who watched his parents slaughtered. I'm sure they'll give you a cookie.
