I constantly see people bitching about American cheese on the internet and I don't get it at all. It's good for certain things, and necessary for a few things, but it definitely isn't something worth getting pissed off about.

I'll always defend the fact that America has cultural identities and a deep cultural heritage, but we really don't have a food culture. What little we do have has been deeply influenced by industrial food production, which results in this nonsense connection between food, class, 'pragmatism vs. pretense', etc.
