Lately I've been listening to a lot of 90s [real] emo like American Football, Mineral, Pop Unknown, Penfold, the Get Up Kids, Clarity(one of the best albums ever, in my opinion)-era Jimmy Eat World, Sunny Day Real Estate, Jejune, Texas is the Reason, The Promise Ring, etc etc. and I'm really missing the jangly guitar music from that time. I know there are some more recent bands with that sound, like Empire! Empire! (I Was a Lonely Estate) and Joie de Vivre, but does anyone know of any other bands? I don't mean the "new" emo crap that is being mass marketed by Hot Topic, etc.

CSTVT aka Castevet does this sound better than anyone I've heard. Grown Ups are also excellent.

But these bands sound like a somewhat of a mix of American Football and Small Brown Bike. I can't really name any 90's bands that sound overly similar.

this is like, the big thing right now and i fucking hate it. from the first time i heard that algernon cadwallader band and realized that a bunch of dickheads are trying really hard to play an irrelevant style of music i've just been turned off and annoyed.

having said that, my friends' band gets pigeonholed in with that stuff, but doesn't sound like it (they're actually good). here:

i spent some time in florida in the late 90s (college) and grew up in the dc area... florida would always have those 403 chaos type shows where a grind band (combatwoundedvetern, assuck, disney violence) would play with all the emo type bands all the time (clairmel, peterbuilt, hot water, i hate myself). Was really a fun time... esp when theyd really mix it up with less than jake, the crumbs or against all authority

This is my own band, but we've based our sound around 90's stuff because we hate all that new over-produced bollocks, like All Time Low. Apart from us, check out Dag Nasty, Summer Vacation, Unfun, Man Without Plan, Ghost Trap, Fuck Mountain, Toys That Kill, No Matter, Flagpolerz, Nevernoodz... If i think of any more, i'll be sure to post!!!
