"We've discovered something which is consistent with being a Higgs."

they're jumping the gun on this announcement just like when they said they had that neutrino that travels faster than light. stupid CERN nuclear physicists--why don't you stick to what you know and coordinate more terrorist attacks with al-qaeda.

change the way we understand physics. i would say that when this is proved, it will change the world.

Theoretically yes. If the particle that is responsible for giving mass to everything can be manipulated then it should be possible to transport things at unbelievable speeds.

Inside every atom of everything there is stuff.
In order for all of that stuff to be held together and attracted to each other, and for the matter it is part of to have any mass, it needs a heavy particle.
That heavy particle is the Higgs boson, or god particle.
For about half a century it has been known about and people have been trying to prove it exists. It is also a big part of the big bang theory.
Well today scientist at the gay hardon collider confirmed that they have indeed discovered a particle more than 130 times heavier than the proton in the centre of every atom. They carried out their experiments well enough to be able to say that there is only a 1 in 2 million chance that they are wrong.

Highly religious people will never stop believing in their god, no matter what is proven by science unfortunately

No science can ever disprove god. I don't know why it is even part of the discussion

I agree but it seems that the more important discoveries made about the universe the more certain people claim it proves there is no god.
