I mean lets face it. Chad Mendes is most likely getting the winner of Aldo/Florian so why not do what you can to promote the shit out of him. The majority of the main stream UFC fans don't really know who he is although he's been on a tear in the WEC. This would give him some major fan exposure headed into a possible title fight.
Almost won tickets to this on Friday. Dana had Faber to to Chickie's & Pete's with a pair of tickets. When they finally said to go meet him there was a mad dash to get to him. I was the 2nd person there but unfortunately I didn't say "Yo Adrian" in time and some fat bitch won the tickets. That was my last shot at getting into the event since I wasn't going to pay for a ticket.
Card was entertaining. Thoughts on the fights:
Tito/Rashad - Props to Tito for taking the fight on short notice. I originally thought that training for Bader would have proved to be great for training against Rashad but I, for some reason, didn't account for Rashad's standup which proved to be the deciding factor in the fight. Rashad looked good though. Ring rust wasn't a factor and I think he's definitely not going to be an easy fight for the winner of Jones/Rampage.
Vitor/Sexy - Vitor looked good. I don't know why Akiyama decided to stand with him. Unless you're Anderson Silva, that's a suicide mission.
Ebersole/Hallman - We all saw too much of Dennis Hallman. Ebersole looked good again though. Less weird than the Lytle fight. I'm interested to see where he goes from here. He called out Matt Serra so we'll see if that fight happens.
Philippou/Rivera - No lose situation for Philippou stepping up on short notice to the main card and he made it work for him. Rivera has always been a decent fighter but he's now beyond faded. He'll make an opponent work for it but he can not longer compete at that level. If Philippou did that good against him standing, Sakara would have knocked him out.
MacDonald/Pyle - Rory MacDonald is for real but I'm not on the bandwagon to call him the next GSP though. He has wins over solid opponents like Diaz and now Pyle but he was stopped by Condit and he hasn't fought that upper tier of fighters yet. If he starts steamrolling through a top 10 or even top 15 Welterweight I'll start to understand that hype.
rashad/tito kinda went like it thought it would. except i expect a unanimous, lop sided, 30-26, decision. i was hoping sexy would at least making it interesting. i thought the fight of the night, hands down, was menjivar/pace.
yeah the Menjivar/Pace fight was awesome. I think that Rashad/Tito got the bonuses mostly because of all the bullshit that went into making that fight happen. I'm sure once the paydays come out it will reveal that they were paid handsomely though.
