i've always been surprised that more indians don't protest thanksgiving the way jews would protest a german holocaust celebration. ["vundabah, mein libling, we got rid of them!"]

it is a pretty depressing story for them and one that no one ever really wants to make the connection with on thanksgiving [except for rita's daughter on last week's dexter lol].

Unrelated to this thread but I wish I could find out more information about my native american heritage.

One NA nation actually had a float in the macy's parade today... it was about "the true meaning of thanksgiving"... if by true you mean forgetting all about everything done to native americans.

I have always found that while being "white" my racial identity as well as my view of the world has been greatly informed by belonging to two traditionally persecuted groups... native americans and the Irish. For example, I often wonder why american Zionist jews can possibly stand to live on land stolen a couple hundred, not a few thousand years ago from native peoples who were often slaughtered wholesale to the point of having a species brought near extinction to destroy their food supply and having biological agents used against them.

Maybe that's because thanksgiving has nothing to do with the extermination of native americans.

derr.... and hitler's birthday has nothing to do with the extermination of the jews during ww2 but celebrating it as a wonderful holiday and feastday would by implication be a celebration of the holocaust. not sure if you're being deliberately opaque or if you're really just this dim.
