6550's ftw

looking to switch to kt-88 but don't know when

I'm looking to retube my 400+ in the near future, I'm probably going to consult Lord Valve about this proceedure once I get th $$ to do so. but step 1 is new speakers, hopefully picking them up tonight

Well the type depends on the amp unless you want to do all kinds of biasing and shit. My amp has 6L6 power tubes and the standard 12AX7 in the preamp. I had JJ tubes from Eurotubes and they make a big difference.

jj tubes are alright, i had them in my orange and thought they were terrible, but they do have a reputation for being a solid tube

i have two NOS GE 6550's and a Tung Sol 6550 NOS, i use Rubies in my Model T and i have some NOS GE 12ax7's in my preamp section

In my Mesa Dual Rec:

4 x JJ 6L6GC
3 x High Gain JJ ECC83S's for V1,V2 + V3 (plannig on getting a Tung-Sol for V1 very soon)
1 x JJ ECC83S for V4
1 x Balanced JJ EC83S for V5

For the Rectifier tubes i use 2 x JJ GZ34's instead of the 5U4's when playing in the tube Rectifier mode. I find these really tighten things up. (Although I still spend most of my time playing in Silicon Diode rectification mode 99% of the time so these tubes don't get much use).

in a naylor super drive 60 single channel:

3 12ax7wb's in the pre, 1 for the loop
2 5881's
