Probably just a noise gate. If you have a good amp and good pickups you don't need anything else for distortion, and most DM bands are pretty straight forward. Maybe a wah here and there too.

yep.

Boss makes good stuff though, the Heavy Metal Petal they have is always a safe bet.

a petal is something attached to a flower. NOT METAL.

Digitech Metal Master is a decent pedal, but I agree with pahulkster's sentiment.

Haha, got this for a christmas present from my parents like three years ago. Their intentions were good but man does that thing suck. I still bust it out sometimes just so it looks like I use it.

As cool as Boss isn't, there are some gems in there. Boss is VERY consistent from pedal to pedal, too.

yeah like three gems.

the dd-6, the dd-20, the pitch shifter, and the discontinued pn-2 panned tremolo.

the choruses, phasers, auto wah, and whatever other gopofy pedals they make are seriously sub par. sure they hold up, but they sound cheesy.

The DD6 is generally looked down upon when you can get the DD20 for a little more.

I can probably name 15-20 Boss pedals that are worth your time. A lot of the dirt pedals are great after some simple mods. Most of the gems are also discontinued stuff.

I definitely agree with you for the most part, though.

The Boss PS-3 is one of my favorite pedals right now. Pitch shifting with an expression pedal, pitch shifted delays, nifty sound chorus.. and a mix knob. It is glorius.

You mean the MT-2?

To my knowledge, there isn't an MT-1.

Effects or gear in general?

You'll find everything from noise gates, to limiters and maximizers and EQ's and compressors when it comes to gear itself.

For effects, I've seen everything. Chorus, Flanger, Disotortion, Phaser, Delay, Reverb, Wah..

But really... who cares what gear you use?

um... the bands might care because it makes a difference in how you sound? what kind of statement is that?
