False. In fact, one valid criticism of the film might be its lack of representation of gay characters.
Another criticism might be that it is only a moderately violent film; they don't show Hypatia's historically reported flaying alive, dismembering, and burning as a witch, even though they do show a fair amount of GoT-level medeival realism when it comes to brutality. Even there, however, it is never really gratuitous, and is usually carrying more empathy than testosterone in its presentation, making the film's 'R' rating a bit bewildering. It should maybe have gotten a 'PG-13' rating for violence and non-sexual nudity, but the ratings board is so arbitrary these days, no one is ever really surprised when it proves it has its head up its ass.
