The NHLPA's proposal is one that would see the player's taking salary cuts and getting more of a stake in revenue sharing. Ya know, for the good of the league, so small market teams can compete. Owners (guys like Ed Snider) don't want to hear any of that. It's a joke.
I never complain about athlete's salaries, or the money made in sports in general, but come on. Shut the fuck up. It's an absolute slap in the face of the people who make your league possible to go through this for the third time in 18 years. And with the progress they've made since the last one in terms of appealing more to the casual fan and American TV audiences in general, I can't think of anything more detrimental to the game than this. Is this really what they want to do entering only the second year of a major TV deal with NBC? Nine percent of the country out of work? Can anything be more insulting than millionaires arguing with billionaires while people shell out 50+ bucks for upper level seating?
What's terrible is all of us who are diehards, we have no choice but to bend over and take it. We know there's no better league in terms of talent in the world, we know the best players play here, we know this is the best the game has to offer in terms of entertainment. Where can we go to watch the game we love? I spent a year watching AHL games, and while it's hockey, we all know it's not the same game as the professionals play. Same with the college game, same with any Euro league. And I think that's what these people know. That's why they feel like they can get away with this kind of bullshit.
