That could also be a cynical comment on Pascal's Wager.

I really liked Fassbender in this and I liked that Scott made the focal character the android. While Shaw was easily the lead character, David was the catalyst and really stole the show. Him developing the ego and pretty much fucking everything up just to prove he was superior was great. He didn't have orders like Ash, he did it on his own.

i did like that about him. he was a great character and he was the only one that made any sort of sense.

the whole subplot with weyland was so unnecessary. as soon as i saw david talking to the cryotube, i knew it was him. it wasn't that big of a reveal.

i was expecting a few huge "HOLY SHIT" moments and the only one was when shaw removed the fetal squid thing from her gut. it looked cool but ultimately wasn't that essential.

another thing that sticks in my craw about this is that it took place how many years before alien and they had that sort of technology while the crew of the nostromo had a commodore 64? i know that it's a trite complaint but a lot of prequels have superior technology to the original. same shit goes for the star wars prequels.

Star Wars at least had something of an excuse - the Republic's technology was supposedly worn down through the Empire's lack of maintenance, new development, etc.

We can also assume that the Prometheus is a state of the art ship built for carting around dudes like Weyland, whereas the Nostromo is a cargo ship...probably old as fuck by the time we see it.

I would still like to see what David's motivations are. Still a bit unclear. He might just sabotage the ship he and Shaw left on, when Shaw is in stasis or whenever.

oh no, i didn't know that douche was involved. that sucks. i actually liked lost for the first few seasons until he turned it into highway to heaven/touched by an angel with the finale. dude is lame, and has an obvious post-christian/christian approach, either consciously or unconsciously.

Answering questions with bigger questions does and doesn't work for me. Sometimes it's pretty fun to speculate about things. I mean the Alien quadrilogy made you do that alot, even in the shitty excuse for a film in Resurrection. I think answering some of those with Prometheus kind of killed some of that vibe for me. I liked the "answers" so to speak but at the same time I liked not knowing a the same time.

Also, the religious agenda seemed a bit confusing. At times it was pretty clear that Scott was pushing an evolution message with it and basically shitting on the idea of creationalism, but at the end the heroin resorts back to wearing the cross. To me that was a copout. It was like, Scott saying that he doesn't believe in what Christians think about how we were created but just incase he'll make sure the "believer" sticks to their face as if to say "just incase god is watching".

that is kinda lame.

and it would be just as easy to have made it look clunkier but still high tech to be consistent. the look of things in these films is so important, i'm kind of surprised they did that.

This looks like a hybrid of an Engineer and Predator. Which makes me think, this was probably conceptual stuff designed to maybe tie in all three films.

That's what I was figuring. Obviously with films being made 30 years apart, technology available for making the film is going to be exponentially greater so it will reflect. The quick explanation would be what Mark said. Nostromo was meant for transporting ore and in terms of technology should have been relatively basic. Prometheus was a traveling science lab, so more "toys" would have been required.

I think it was clear. With the humans constantly reminding him that he's just a robot and "we" created him, he knew that he was intellectually and biologically superior. Unleashing the havok that ensues in this film was his way of proving that. In a way it was as if he was playing God. It wasn't until the engineer ripped his head off and he realized that he was just as vulnerable, did he come back down to Earth. If you notice, he was trying to get Shaw home to safety at the end. It was her decision to head to the engineer's planet. I would assume that he obliged because he was greatly responsible for the deaths of everyone on the ship, most importantly, Holloway.

The Predator was supposed to have been seen in one of the cave drawings but I didn't catch it. The main one in Scotland didn't have them and the others were on and off the screen too fast for me to notice. The mural was dark and started to decay too fast as well.

I hope he stays partnered with Shaw throughout the next film. Excellent character.

A part of me still think though that he might have an ulterior motive that we have yet to see.

So we are expected to believe that The Weiland Corp merges with Yutani over the next 60 years, presumably because of Peter Weilands "actual" death. Remember at the end of AVP 2 we get a shot of Miss Yutani holding some of the Predator technology? Would be cool to see how they tie that in without making another crap AvP film.

I'm not going to read this thread because the inevitable belly aching will only make me irritated.

The film was fantastic. I am a HUGE Alien dork and answered questions I wanted answered and made new ones that have me excite for "Paradise" (part 2 of Scott's 3 film story arc leading to Alien).
