What an awful loss to Toronto. Still, even with this joke of a season thus far, the Union are just 7 points out of a playoff position. That's two wins and a draw. The 7th seeded Houston already played and won to boost into the 5th seed which is the final playoff spot. The 4 and 6, Chicago and Columbus play tonight as well as the 6th seeded New England Revolution playing the 2nd seeded DC United. The 8th seeded Montreal plays a tough Western Conference opponent in Colorado. If the teams right above us can continue to lose as well then we can at least stay in striking distance, but sooner or later you have to start winning games. That isn't going to be easy when the next 3 games are against DCU, Sporting and Houston. At least we have the USOC to look forward to this week.
I'm curious to get some opinions and get a little debate going. If we finish somewhere between 6th and 10th and miss the playoffs after qualifying last year, yet the Union were able to win the USOC, how do you gauge the success of the season? Keep in mind that while most MLS clubs don't take the USOC with complete seriousness, the winner does get an automatic berth in the Champions League. The winner of the Champions League gets an automatic berth in the FIFA Club World Cup. Between both of those, the Union would get to be seen on a different scale and would get exposure to fans who don't normally see much or any of the MLS.
