then pay more with your own money, why give it to the government? what about people who don't want to do the college thing? it's good grade school is a requirement, but some people just don't want to go to college.

strange you hate my child.....yet you never met him...

of course i'm stalking to the same person who feels children should be held to the same standards as adults when in public.

don't act all innocent, you shithead. you started this. i'm just finishing it.
also lol@ you for making your child a topic of conversation on this public messageboard.

why would'nt i talk about my son???

i'm proud to be a parent, i love it.....people talk about their loved ones all the time on this board....but then a faggot like you comes along and decides to make fun of my child for no reason what so ever.....at no point did i attack anyone in your family, plus all you have as a picture is some fucking zombie shit.....shows how faceless you are.

though i expected you to do that.....you come off like an ass who has to attack a child for no reason......again they should be arrested when attacking up in public just like an adult right?

shows how much off a dummy you are.

I'm not seeing that as a good reason given how many people want to go to college but can't afford to or can't afford to without ten to twenty years of debt being attached.

Also, this would benefit the entire nation, including those who don't want to go to college.

who can't afford it? I have about 1000 and I'm in school. My sister has about 100 to her name and she's going to a state college with everything paid for through grants. All you need is grants and loans, people have been doing it for years.

no. having gone through the university system as a pauper with grants and loans, i can say pretty unequivocably that there's a HUGE advantage rich kids have because their parents pick up the tab. they don't have to constantly worry about financial aid - and spend time and stress out managing it and be constantly distracted by it, or have to work shitty minimum wage food service jobs, in addition to their assistantships during grad school. they just have to study, and as a consequence, they learn a lot more. it's no coincidence that very few humanities professors come from trailer parks or the projects. i don't think people that don't pursue academic careers really understand this. and yet, as part of the voting public, they are, as a result, a big part of the reason this may never change, and why advanced learning in high culture and the more erudite fields will continue to be available only to the wealthy classes in general, with only enough token exceptions to make them feel good about themselves, but no more.

Uh, have you looked at student loans lately? The lending practices border on the predatory. Tell me AAAAALLLL about it when you get out of college and have to pay back loans.

Also, there is a HUGE difference between private universities and state universities.. and having gone to both I can say without reservation that anyone who tells you one is just as good as the other is full of shit.

Matt.. your experience does not necessarily mirror that of other people nationwide. I've gone to and worked at 4 different universities in 3 different parts of the US.

Actually, I simply refuse to exempt myself from being able to discuss how government, if it is going to exist, should attempt to justify its existence by having some actual function in society.

... and I have never indicated that everything should be socialized.

Also... though I am not an adherent.. there is such a thing as socialist anarchism.

While I would agree for industrialized society, it is not necessarily an oxymoron in all instances. You should really study these things a bit more, Matt. You might actually learn something.

Alright, this is one i've never really understood, so i'm interested in hearing all the pro's and con's on this: what is good about not having a socialized higher education system? What is bad?
Is it a coincidence that countries where people don't have to pay for college have the highest literacy rates and the best educated populace?
And i really want to hear from any Bush supporters on this one because even if i agreed with the republican party on all other ideological and policy issues, this would have been a real deal-breaker for me and made me vote against him. And it's not just because I'm poor and up to my ass in financial aid, grants and student loans. I really think the whole future and direction of our country, of any country is determined by the level of education or ignorance of its people.
How can we compete with countries where everyone goes to college, and most have graduate degrees, when we throw up so many barriers to kids just paying for the schools it was hard enough to get into in the first place?
Is it no wonder the guy giving you tech support on the phone is from India when full grown, adult Americans have trouble with basic arithmetic?

So o.k. - socialized higher education: good or bad?

I'm your only bush supporter. I see your point but then again I think of the person who is paying extra taxes for something when they don't even want to go to college. For example: my brother hated school. He graduated high school and took a little bit of schooling to get into loans and is doing really well. I don't think we should force people to pay for something that not everyone is going to use. For the same of everyone, I think it's ok to put some tax money towards it, but a full college scholarship for everyone to go to college? I completely disagree. As for our grade school system...everyone does it, we need that.
