socialized education is a bad idea....there would be no competition then between schools to better themselves (which in the area i live you all ready see with the Public Schools and how their students overall lag behind Private school students).

comparing the university system to primary and secondary school systems shows a lack of understanding in how the system works.

in the current model of financing a university, do you know how much comes from private donations and state money already? HUGE CHUNKS of it, and that has nothing at all do with competition.

KEEP THE "FREE MARKET" OUT OF EDUCATION IF YOU WANT SOMETHING WORTHWHILE OUT OF IT. that's all i can say; education isn't business, and running it like one is a death sentence.

where did i compare the university system to any other type of schooling????

i'm assuming you are talking about the university system because the primary/secondary education is already socialized. otherwise there's nothing to talk about. we're you making some other comparison?

i was not making a comparison...i'm saying the primary/secondary education should also NOT be socialized.....now before you say "oh my gosh you don't want people who can't afford to send their kids to school to not be able to go!!! you asshole!".....read one of my previous posts.

i'd like ALL education to be part of the free market with the government using tax money it gets to go the parents of said kids to pay for THEIR choice of Private school.

now i make that sound simple and unrealistic (which i know it is) but i just don't think the government does a good job at funding schools or giving it's teachers incentive to push themselves.

that's even worse. the "Free Market" isn't going to do shit for education - the goals of each are not even remotely comparable. education isn't about the bottom dollar, it's about education for its own sake. you either understand that or you don't, and if the world were run as you'd like it, we'd all be businessmen and nothing else.

a bunch of words: not necessarily, because money can be reallocated from bullshit like the bloated defense budget, to name one thing, and even if they were higher,

You'll care when you're shelling out all your money. People are idiots to not observe how much better we are then other countries. We're top in everything but our teaching skills. There's a reason why everyone is trying to get into our country.

While we're paying things like 4$ a gallon for gas, other countries pay like 12$ right now. There's a reason everyone in other countries uses public transportation.

your ideas of better/worse/good/bad are so ridiculously childlike.
you really can't see that other countries might be 'better' than your perfect country in some ways?
the lack of shades of grey in your perceived universe is disturbing.

dude, we're so much better off then alot of other places. that's all I'm trying to say. of course we have our problems, I'm not saying we don't. so please don't assume you know exactly what I'm thinking. You assume things like some women I know, it's a bad habit and gets you in trouble.

In the sense of how much you generalize, you are childlike, and very short sighted, not I.

I'm not editing, i'm adding to what I say so I don't have to post more then once for the same subject.

and...still doesn't make sense. you are childlike. talking to you is like talking to someone who doesn't know how to put himself in other peoples shoes....like a 5 year old.

you're seriously running with this??

you made a really generalised statement of the US being 'better than other coutries.'
i picked up on it, hoping you might explain yourself a little, and all of a sudden i'm solopsistic? i can understand you saying 'childlike' because i said it to you first, but seriously, where did you get the idea that i can't put myself in other peoples' shoes?
of all of the people who might accuse me of not wanting to see other peoples' points of view, i didnt think it could be you.

See, this is what you're doing. You don't just ask me to "explain" my statement, you accuse me of being child like first and then you judge me and assume things about me. All I'm doing is trying to make you see that the same can be applied to yourself.

If you simply asked me to explain myself, i would have done it in the most polite way I could. Instead I need to explain to you how you're the same way.

hahahhahah! that's like a kid in the back of the car, his mom tells him to put the seatbelt on, and he replies 'no. if you'd asked me nicely, i would, but since you told me to do it, i won't!'
