I love all the crying going on about Mayweather but no one seems to care about the leaping/lunging headbutt that Ortiz felt he had to deliver even though he had him on the ropes. This is not the first time Mayweather has punched out of the touch of gloves ritual. Have we forgotten Mosley getting smacked with his hands down in the middle of the ring or maybe Gatti getting owned with his hands down and looking at the ref? No we didn't forget, we just don't whine and complain because Mosley didn't get knocked out from it and Gatti was such a blow out it was laughable. However, now that Ortiz is defeated and didn't bother to block or move after the jab was thrown (he consequently ate a huge KO right hand) people want to call it bullshit. Well sorry to tell you but it's legal and fair to punch in the middle of the ring. He didn't punch after the bell, during a clinch, during a referee break or anything to that affect. There is nowhere in the written Marquees of Queensbury rules that says you must touch gloves after you commit an illegal blow against your opponent. Why are you all so sour...I surmise that it has everything to do with the ridiculous mega hype pushed about a young inexperienced fighter possibly knocking out a technically superior and far more experienced fighter.

I've watched it ten times and I don't see them being separated by the ref (breaking) at all. Ortiz embraced then took two steps back and mayweather unloaded. On the subject of manny/mayweather I honestly don't know what the issue is now. Does anyone have the answer why this fight can not be put to paper?

Wut. They separated after the head butt, see when the ref grabs them and separates them so he can take the point, when the ref separates them that's when the separation occurs

He did separate them, scolded Ortiz and motioned for the point. Then they engaged again in the center of the ring, wether Ortiz wanted to hug for two seconds or two minutes he has to protect himself...not sure how I'm missing anything here. Ortiz was smiling during the post fight interview because he knew he fucked up. The Nevada State Athletic Commission and the World Boxing Council both agree that it was a legal and legitimate KO.
