2011: should have let the Bush tax cuts expire last year, and then, a month or two later, presented a new bill that would cut taxes for people making under $250k. it would have passed as republicans have a hard time telling their base that they ever voted against tax cuts. letting the Bush tax cuts expire would have increased revenue and helped offset the budget problems he's facing right now, and the new bill would have allowed obama to say that he cut most people's taxes with his own bill, now and during his reelection campaign.
what he did: tried to negotiate with republicans who hate him last year for keeping the cuts for people under $250k, lost, and is now in a position where he will need to give up even more ground to the opposition during the current debt ceiling talks, once again revealing that his administration has absolutely no sense of political strategy.
when mr. cool got elected, i really thought he and his people were thinking three or four moves ahead of the game. now i know that they may think they are, but their failure rate proves that they are just as scrambling and reactive as anyone else involved, if not moreso. not a good thing for them when the republicans look like the chess players in the relationship.
