it was definitely a charging penalty, but if he never left his feet, they would have been one of the best hits ever.

But he did leave his feet, it was a vicious and dirty hit. There's no place for that in the NHL, and judging from his history, there's really no place for a player like Downie in the NHL either.

What I dont understand is that players like Downie and Avery can float around from team to team while more talented players get over looked or kept in the minors.

I think he's embarrassing the league with his antics, and there really shouldn't be a place in the league for him. But he is definitely entertaining, so I will let it slide a bit more than I would with goons that play three or four shifts a game and intentionally try to injure other players.

The skills comp is always fun to watch, the all star game is usually a bore.
